Cricket World Cup 2023: Ben Stokes Ruled Out, Kane Williamson's Return, and New Zealand's Strong Start.

Ben Stokes has been ruled out of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023 starting from the initial matches as England begins their title defense. The star all-rounder played a pivotal role in England's incredible victory in the final of the 2019 Cricket World Cup, but due to Kohli's injury issue, he won't feature in the match against New Zealand.

Stokes has been struggling with a long-standing knee issue, and he had contemplated taking a break from ODIs to focus on his role as a specialist batsman for England's World Cup campaign in India. The 32-year-old has not played any competitive matches since his outstanding performance, scoring 182 runs in an ODI win against New Zealand on September 13.

Stokes, who was the only member of England's World Cup team to participate in the practice match against Bangladesh, will not take the field as he is dealing with an injury sustained while firing a shotgun during a shop event.

England's captain Jos Buttler stated after losing the toss and sending England into bat, "Ben will be missed in this game; he has a slight knee issue."

New Zealand, on the other hand, will begin their World Cup challenge without their captain Kane Williamson and fast bowler Tim Southee. Williamson had recovered impressively from a torn pectoral muscle in April and was prepared to play only as a specialist batsman for New Zealand in the World Cup warm-up matches. However, he won't participate in England's encounter to concentrate on regaining fitness.

The 33-year-old impressed in the warm-up matches against South Africa with scores of 37* and Pakistan with 54*, making a strong case for New Zealand's first-ever World Cup trophy claim.

New Zealand's acting captain Tom Latham stated, "It looks like it's part of his daily routine in terms of what it looks like for him. But hopefully, he'll be available soon.''

England XI: David Malan, Jonny Bairstow, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Jos Buttler (captain, wicketkeeper), Liam Livingstone, Moeen Ali, Chris Woakes, Sam Curran, Adil Rashid, Mark Wood

New Zealand XI: Devon Conway, Will Young, Rachin Ravindra, Daryl Mitchell, Tom Latham (captain, wicketkeeper), Glenn Phillips, Mark Chapman, James Neesham, Mitchell Santner, Matt Henry, Trent Boult
