New Delhi: A strong earthquake of a magnitude of 6.2 slammed Nepal this afternoon, leaving behind widespread traces of devastation. The terrible 7.8 magnitude earthquake that struck Nepal's capital city, Kathmandu, in 2015 leaves lasting recollections of its aftermath.
Today, in western Nepal, two consecutive earthquakes measuring 5.3 and 6.3 in magnitude were recorded. There is no news of casualties so far.
The Kathmandu Post said that at 2:40 PM, a first earthquake with a magnitude of 5.3 was registered, and at 3:06 PM, a second earthquake with a magnitude of 6.3 was recorded in the Bajhang district.
The tremors of the earthquake were not only felt within the country but also in the Delhi and surrounding areas. People were seen fleeing buildings in the national capital, Gurugram, and Noida.
Nepal is extremely vulnerable to earthquakes because it is located in one of the tectonically active regions of the planet. A devastating 7.8-magnitude earthquake that struck Nepal in 2015 resulted in the deaths of close to 9,000 people and the injury of almost 22,000 more. Homes, businesses, and educational facilities totaled over 800,000.
