During Brazilian Agriculture and Livestock Minister Carlos Fevrao's meeting with Indian Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution Minister Piyush Goyal.
The timing of Fevrao's journey coincides with a global focus on maintaining uninterrupted and trustworthy food supply chains as well as preventing protectionist policies and unilateral limitations from having an impact on agricultural trade. Both parties anticipate focusing on cooperation in the areas of ethanol and biofuels.
The G20 asked for guaranteed activity to increment research joint effort on environment strong and supplement thick harvests, zeroing in on millets, quinoa, and sorghum notwithstanding traditional food backbones like rice, wheat, and maize. The G20 also reiterated their commitment to eliminate hunger and malnutrition.
During the G20 Summit in New Delhi, Brazil's President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, pledging multi-sectoral cooperation to enhance agricultural and rural development at the bilateral and multilateral levels. Both countries expressed satisfaction with the creation of joint technical committees to facilitate trade in agricultural and livestock products.
Both countries are also discussing the expansion of India-MERCOSUR preferential trade agreement.
The issue of global food security is widely debated. In September, Mariam Al Mehairi, the United Arab Emirates' Minister of Climate Change and Environment, mentioned in an interview with Mint that, "The goal of COP28 under the chairmanship of the United Arab Emirates is to transform food systems to ensure that food systems are an integral part of nationally determined contributions (NDCs), national adaptation plans (NAPs), and national biodiversity strategies." She went on to say that she would be reaching out to all agriculture ministers from all member countries to sign onto the COP28 food agenda.
Brazilian and Indian leaders emphasized the need for a fair and immediate transition in energy during the G20 summit. They concentrated particularly on the significance of biofuels and flex-fuel cars for decarbonizing the transportation sector in developing countries. They applauded the beginning of a trailblazing bilateral bioenergy initiative that included participants from the public and business sectors. During India's G20 chairmanship, the establishment of the Global Biofuels Alliance, of which both countries are founding members, was celebrated."
